Game Thoughts
2 hours and 45 minute rain delay going from the 6th into the 7th, and most of the Delaware Valley, and the fans in Atlanta went to bed. With less than 1,000 fans in attendance in the top of the 11th the Phillies get a run across the plate as Jose Suarez literally walked a run in when facing Johan Rojas. 3 outs away from a series win, and Joe Ross gives up 3 runs on 2 hits (zombie runner on 2nd) and the Phillies lose the game, the series, and the faith of those they gained in the Dodger series.

A hilarious sequence of foul balls occurred in the 10th inning, where Bryson Stott’s foul ball ricochets off an attendant at the Braves stadium. As we know Stott can battle with foul balls, and he kept hitting them at her. She was pissed. It was hilarious. Phillies Nation pointed out that Richie Ashburn has a famous story about a similar incident, which turned into a lifelong friendship with the Roth family.
Ashburn was well known for fighting off pitches into the stands and making opposing pitchers work. This day, a foul ball flew off of his bat and struck Alice directly in the nose.
Ashburn was still up to bat as she was being carried away and then, the nearly impossible happened: he hit a foul ball that struck her again, this time on the leg.
Cards
That 1991 Topps Ken Griffey Jr card is why I bought this pack. I make no argument that I have a soft spot for 1991 Topps, and what a card that is. That stance, the ball driven into the crowd from that flawlessly smooth swing, all captured and framed in the 40th Anniversary set.
One note that I don’t know how it escaped me all these years, but in the Steve Whitaker Draft Pick 1992 Topps Gold card, the back of the card has “ToppsGold” logo behind the stats. Until I scanned it, I never noticed that at all!
