Game Thoughts
Didn’t catch this game as I had a prior obligation, on the Philly radio scene, Aaron Nola was taking a lot of heat for this game, but the Phillies bats could only muster 4 hits, and went 0 for 5 with runners in scoring position. The lack of hitting against starting pitching is a huge concern.
Card Show
There was a local card show here that I had a limited amount of time to work with, but it was really good. I spent most of the time looking at some amazing vintage cards, particularly a Richie Ashburn/Willie Mays card, which turned out to be a 1959 Topps #317. I found it on Dean’s Cards:

Pickups

- Wax Packs
- 1989 Upper Deck (2)
- Bargain Bin
- Awesome All-Star Stickers
- 1991 Topps Archives (2) – I could not believe these were in the bargain bin
- 1993 Donruss Series 1 (4)
- 1990 Donruss
- Wax Box
- 1994 Score Series 1 Hobby Box
There were several Wax Boxes to choose from, and one that got away for sure. There was a 1993 Leaf Series 2 box which I was trying to get the dealer’s attention, and another buyer asked before I did. Learned a lesson that day to pick up the item to ask about it, so others cannot swoop in. It went for SUPER CHEAP too. Luckily it went to a Frank Thomas collector, so that was good. The other boxes that I was mulling over were Pinnacle from 93 & 94. One of the Pinnacle boxes was over $100, not sure why that is, and I forget what years and series they were exactly since time was of the essence.
Didn’t take home any individual Phillies cards, ran out of time. Two surprising things at this show:
- No vendors have QR codes setup for electronic payments
- Many vendors are looking up prices in Beckett.
It was like stepping back in time, many vendors there had the latest Beckett, and would check the magazine for the price trends of the card. I was floored.
