Today was the yearly trip to Knuckleball Sports Cards with my friend Shaun. Trip was awesome and I will showcase the Pickups in a later post. This post is about when I got home and realized that I literally have no place to put my goods until I get my basement sorted out. This is something that has been pushed off since our hot water heater broke this summer. Now it is time to reclaim that space, and set myself up for 2024 with a clear mind.
Card Inventory
I found myself visiting card shops this year with a slight direction, but always just picking up something interesting that I find, or in some cases possibly cards that I already have. The time has come for me to put together a card inventory. This will entail the 1980 – Current Phillies Collection and the unopened Wax box collection that I’m building. From there we can push to the monster boxes I have, and then any other cards. Getting that list digitized will be a tremendous relief and allow me to know what I have and need.
The other added benefit to this is the long term goal of having a web app that would contain all my cards like Tanner Jones described in his book. That would be awesome! First step is getting it all digitized, and it is a pretty slow process.
Purpose
With the collection I’m at a point where I have so much to process, so much to write about, so many pickups in 2023 that I haven’t documented, that I’m falling behind my goals of the collection. So I need to reprioritize my time. Like many, I can better spend my time on this rather than on social media or consuming mindless television. This will also give me a purpose to learn new skills, push myself to figure out the technical end of things, and maybe open that up to other collectors as a method of displaying their collections. It all comes down to how we spend our time and in 2024 I would like to have something to show for the time that passes, rather than just piles of good intentions.
Not only do I have a purpose for the collection, but it will drive me to have more purpose in life.
