Ebay Find – Topps 2023 Chrome Cosmic – Extraterrestrial Talent – Bryce Harper

Magnificent cards

As I wrote in my last post, the Topps Chrome Cosmic are so good. They are the closest thing to Topps Finest I’ve seen in years. I absolutely love these cards, and the scanning doesn’t even do it justice. In person they are a bit darker, but the shine on the chrome really frames the visual. The font reminds me of Mars Attacks! set of cards, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the exact one since Topps was the creator of that set.

Still learning how to scan

This was a challenge to scan, as I’m using an Epson ES-400 II for this card, and I found a setting that really brought the card to life. Most of the scans of the Topps Chrome cards have been dark and unimpressive. To solve this I did the following:

Launch Epson SmartScan > Settings > Scan Settings > Advanced Settings – Text Enchancement
  • Launch Epson SmartScan
  • Settings
  • Scan Settings
  • Advanced Settings
  • Text Enchancement
    • From there you can change the brightness and contrast settings

The downside here is that the dreaded white scanlines are more present with this setting. These are only present on the penny sleeve, and not the card itself. The scanned version of this brings out colors and detail that unless under direct bright light are harder to see, but the shiny-ness of the chrome turns into a rainbow reflected of the scanner.

Lots to learn on this end, I have gone through a few grab bags of cards and scanned those in, and that will be my next post on this journey toward organizing the collection!
